Onboard the O-C Tech Train!

During American Education Week, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College hosted a Teacher Education Field Study for Teacher Cadets and other area students interested in a career in teaching. Students were granted the opportunity to chat with the college's president, Dr. Walt Tobin, Jr., learn more about the education programs offered at O-C Tech, attend education classes, and tour the campus and its facilities. Thanks to Jody Ott and Gloria Caldwell for providing a rewarding experience and allowing the students and instructors to have fun aboard the O-C Tech train! We look forward to the expansion of the Teacher Cadet Program in the Orangeburg area!

Fall ReNEWal Conference Makes Waves in Myrtle Beach!

Our first ever Pre-Collegiate Fall ReNEWal Conference recently held October 26th-28th at the Landmark Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC was a HUGE success! Formerly titled, the Fall Recruitment Workshop, our newly named conference did not disappoint! This year's conference provided opportunities for attendees to learn, network, and share ideas and resources to enhance initiatives among our programs (ProTeam, Teacher Cadet, & College Partners).

The theme for this year’s conference was ReNEWal: Mind, Body, Spirit. The conference featured two keynote addresses, one by 2013 South Carolina Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Amy McAllister and another by Cindi Rigsbee, 2009 National Teacher of the Year Finalist and author of Finding Mrs. Warnecke, a book about the difference educators make in the lives of students. The conference also featured 20 sharing sessions, a Silent Auction to benefit the Ken Bower Teacher Cadet Scholarships, “Onboard Activities,” “Excursions,” and real-time technology integration activities, to name a few.

Check out a sample of the plethora of exemplary sessions offered at the conference!

To check out Facebook posts, tweets, and pics from the conference, download the conference app! Yes, there is an app for that! :) You can search for the app in the App Store or Google Play Store. Just search for "Fall Renewal Conference."

We hope to see you at next year's conference!

Beaufort & Jasper County Schools On the Move!

Yesterday was an amazing day! I had the opportunity to spend the day with the Teacher Cadets and the TC instructors in Beaufort and Jasper counties! The Cadets at Battery Creek, Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Ridgeland, and Whale Branch Early College high schools were impressive! My message included why SC needs the "best and brightest" to become teachers, and the Cadets learned more about the "good" and the "not so good" statistics and trends of education in SC. Program Director, Jason Fulmer, also presented "Strategies to Orchestrate Student Success," and the Cadets really enjoyed the interactive presentation as they sang, moved to the "medleys," and had fun learning strategies that they can use when they go out into the field for their Teacher Cadet Field Experience. Thanks again to Mrs. Cindy Sturgis and the Teacher Cadets of Hilton Head Island High School for organizing the Lowcountry's first Regional Teacher Cadet Day! (Well....that's my title for it....hint, hint!) Pictures from the event will be uploaded soon to the TC web site. Check them out!
